A Theory of Everything

1. Redundancy

Sparrow

at the feeder.

Now a second,

and a third.

Sun at evening's

last angle.

I watch.

Now a fourth.

2. Adaptation

Deep twilight.

Bats bank across

the porch, out over

water, then disappear.

When it gets

this dark, the unseen

can see

what they need.

3. Resolution

Even the river

is absorbed. All

its tumultuousness,

all the rivers

it joins,

all the mountains

it brings down

with it.

There in the tidal

zone, even the river

is absorbed.
